Viewers have been calling it the ‘worst penalty award’ they’d ever seen. Former Scotland star James McFadden may solely say ‘wow’.
FIFA referee Matthew MacDermid actually will not need to watch the highlights again on Saturday morning.
MacDermid awarded a penalty to Partick Thistle when Seb Drozd dropped to the bottom theatrically, with no obvious contact from Ayr defender Kevin Holt.
Smyth transformed from 12 yards to present Thistle a 1-0 win and even Partick boss Mark Wilson admitted afterwards it was not a penalty.
The worst ever? Decide for your self.
Seb Drozd lies smirking on the bottom after profitable a contentious penalty for Partick Thistle
Pundit Chris Sutton was clearly in little doubt when he took a sometimes sarcastic swipe on the referee on X.
The previous Celtic striker posted: ‘A contender for BBC 606’s Simulation Recreation … troublesome for the ref to identify this.’
Certainly one of many irate Ayr followers posted: ‘That is an absolute joke to award that dive! Dishonest b*****!’
One other supporter of the Trustworthy Males complained: ‘That was by no means a penalty in 1,000,000 years’, to which a Partick Thistle fan replied: ‘I agree however sadly it occurs.’
A fellow Jags fan had a barely completely different take when he posted: ‘As a thistle fan its 100% a dive however total we have now been throughout you.’
The Ref’s View podcast hosted by former referees posted: ‘Horrific resolution to award a penalty there, Smith already on a reserving for diving. Matthew MacDermid has been conned there.’
